The 3-hour ride on the paved road from El Calafate to El Chalten will be an amazing opportunity to enjoy views and take pictures of the Patagonian steppe and Lakes Argentino and Viedma, having the Andes range as a background. Pay specific attention as you get closer to El Chalten, as if day is clear you will experience unforgettable sights of a postcard-style landscape with Fitz Roy mount with the leading role.
On arrival to Chalten, you will be taken to your comfortable hotel. If you still have a few hours of sunlight, put your hiking boots on, go out & explore the mountain, we suggest Eagles and Condors lookout points.
Today after breakfast, you can leave Chalten on a trek to the lake at the foot of Mount Fitz Roy. Bordering River Blanco, the initial path will lead to the first lookout point of the Piedras Blancas Glacier. You will continue through Poicenot campsite to get to base camp Rio Blanco where international climbers wait for the chance to climb the “smoky” mountain. From this site, you will continue the last 400 meters of the trek leading to the Laguna de los Tres where views of Fitz Roy, its lagoon and glaciers are simply surreal.
There are multiple hikes and tours to enjoy from El Chalten. Ask your travel specialist for more information about each one available depending on your level of fitness: Laguna Torres and base glacier; Huemul Reserve & glacier; Pliegue Tumbado; Del Desierto Lagoon.
After breakfast, you will be taken to El Calafate to continue your adventures in Patagonia. If you have some more hours available, do ask you travel specialist about what else can be done in El Chalten.
