Introduction: The archaeological site of Choquequirao is part of the complex system of Andean towns in Vilcabamba Valley. In the time of the Incas it was united and in communication with Machu Picchu by a complex network of trails. Choquequirao is situated in the spurs of the mountain range of Salcantay, at 3035 m.a.s.l, surrounded by the snow capped Apus of Yanama, Ampay, Choquecarpu, Pumasillo and Panta on the right side of Apurimac river in the Santa Teresa district. The Convention province of the department of Cusco.

Choquequirao is an Inca town formed by small sites spread out in rubblework that in its adjoining constructs a complex metropolis, similar to those of the other regions placed on the crest of the hill by the same name Choquequirao.

1st Day Cusco – Chiquisca

det_42We will leave from Cusco at around 5 am. Arriving at Cachora town around 9 am (2850 mt) where we will have our breakfast (not included). After we will arrange the equipment on the mules or horses.

From here we can also observe the majestic Padrayoc snow – covered peaks at 5482 m and Wayn Cachora snow – covered peaks. We will start hiking to Chiquisca (6 hours). Today we will be passing La Colmena (2870 m.a.s.l.), La Aguada (2915 m.a.s.l.), Capuliyoc (2915 m.a.s.l.) which has an impressive vantage from where you can see the Apurimac Valley, Huayhuacalle (2970m.a.s.l.), Tinajayoc (2630m.a.s.l.), Mirador (2370m.a.s.l.), Cocamasana (2330m.a.s.l.), Torowisqana (2285m.a.s.l.) & Chiquisqa (1950m.a.s.l.).

2nd day: Chiquisca – Santa Rosa 2100 m

det_43Around 5.00 a.m. we will have breakfast and begin hiking to Playa Rosalina, (1550 m.a.s.l.) which will take about 4 hours. You can see different kind of plants, trees and local people who live in this area. We will take some time to rest and eat lunch.

From this point we will continue hiking on a steep path up to Santa Rosa for 3 hours, where you can taste a typical Peruvian beverage called: Cambric. After a little break we will continue hiking until we arrive at the campsite in Santa Rosa (2100 m.a.s.l.).

3rd Day: Santa Rosa 2115m – Choquequirao – Santa Rosa

det_418After an early breakfast we will pack our stuff and start walking for 2 to 3 hours to Choquequirao (3033 mt). Here we may be lucky enough to appreciate the flight of the Condors. We will also see special vegetation and its variety of flowers and orchids.

This will be a good time to enjoy this majestic place. We will observe the three levels of the excavated ruin, where we can appreciate houses, terraces and other parts of this late Inca-town. Archaeologists are still discovering parts of these ruins. Some areas can tell us about this last refuge of the Inca Empire. Approximately at 3 o’clock in the afternoon (depends on the weather) we can appreciate “the flight of the Condors”. After we will start our return walk to Santa Rosa where we will spend the night at our campsite.

4th Day: Santa Rosa – Cachora – Cusco

det_41998After an early breakfast at 5.00 a.m. we will continue our hike to Playa Rosalinda. After a 5 hour hike we will arrive at Cachora town.

During this hike you get to see the snow covered mountains of Padrayoc. After this hike we will continue by bus to Cusco where we will arrive around 6.00 p.m.

The balance you will pay at our office in Cusco before the start of the trek. We accept cash USD or credit card (+6%)
